Originally based in Shropshire, Coalport was founded by John Rose in 1795 but later moved to Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire. It was one of the first porcelain factories to mass-produce tableware.

It soon became known for it's exceptional quality, fine workmanship and classic designs and was incorporated into the Wedgwood group in 1967
