Alfred Meakin was the owner and founder of Alfred Meakin Ltd which was set up in 1875 and operated from several potteries in Tunstall. Alfred died in 1904, leaving the company to his son, but unfortunately his son also died several years later. It continued to produce under the ownership of the Johnson family until 1976 when the company became Myott-Meakin, and later became part of the Churchill group in 1991
